My work is grounded in photographer Jay Maisel's sweet and simple mantra: "Become a better person to become a better photographer."
Raised in NYC as a first-generation Russian-American, I found escapism in fantasy and imagination. I studied photography from high school through SVA and Drexel. Given the opportunity, I always choose a timeless black and white photograph as homage to my days in the darkroom.
I describe my work as classic, intimate, documentary-style portraits and candids. I shoot portraits, headshots, and document events with a paparazzi-inspired, film noir, retro, 35mm off-the-cuff style. I love my camera, but I'm not a gear head. I know that what really makes a beautiful photograph is the subject, not the camera. I blend candid, photojournalistic shots with composed portraits for a timeless, emotional result.
I bring technical skills and an eye for composition. But my focus is on the people. Every new person I photograph opens up a new world for me to explore. Everyone thinks they’re “unphotographable.” Trust me when I say, you are a visual story that needs to be told and I would love the honor.
